Stunning Christmas Inspiration To Deck Your Halls
I love Christmas – absolutely crazy for it. I love the magic and the merriment and I completely adore the decorations. I am amazed at how over one weekend a family home transforms into a beautiful winter wonderland. It is my favourite part of Christmas and when my Christmas Spirit comes to life.
Everyone has their style and traditions at this time of year and I am going to share a few of my personal decorating choices to help you get that festive “feel good” factor.
I have lots of friends whose Christmas trees look divine and are beautifully co-ordinated. One whose ornaments are all white for a Nordic look. If you’re dreaming of a White Christmas, then check out Cox & Cox’s cute china birds and my new online favourite Rowen & Wren have these adorable white pine cones.
Another friend colour codes her tree each year and I have heard word that silver is this year’s colour of choice. Rocket St George have beautiful silver baubles that will really catch the light and create a sophisticated elegant feel.
As for me, I am more your “Gatling gun” decorating kind of person and though there is some thought that goes into our tree, it is all about celebrating Christmas past. Maybe one of the most precious ornaments on my tree is a small paper bell that is dangling off a twisted paper clip. This has hung on a family tree for over 65 years and was made by my grandparents for their first ever Christmas as a married couple. The ones that mean the most to my husband and I are from our pre-kid travels. No elegant bauble can beat Santa climbing the Eiffel tower purchased on our first Christmas when he was living in Paris. While our tree heaves under the weight of memories old our Fireplace encapsulates Christmas present and is a celebration of our family life. For a vintage vibe to your tree, check out Love Inc’s new website, Hannah stocks some real vintage baubles as well as beautiful robins and grapetits.
Decorating the fireplace is so much fun, it is a prime focal point of a Christmas room and let’s face it the first thing Santa sees when he arrives. Never wanting to let the big man down, I hang our 4 homemade Christmas stockings for the family members and much to the horror of my kids a shop bought one for our dog. I love homemade things for Christmas, their raw appeal means you can really throw yourself into the project and create a lasting family heirloom. If sewing isn’t your talent, then John Lewis is doing some great personalised stockings (although you must order by 3rd December for Christmas delivery).
My step into Christmas future is adding festive home accessories. This year I have treated myself to a Lorna Syson “Robin Cushion” and will swap my normal cushion out for red ones to bring the whole cosy look home, which can be purchase direct from Lorna’s website. I have my eye on many items for the future but am particularly tempted a chunky knit red throw for the sofa by good old M & S.
I can’t wait to curl up on my sofa on Christmas morning in this haven of festive cheer and watch the family open their gifts. Merry Christmas to you all!
